DS BROADCAST LAUNCHING NEW 4K ULTRA HD ENCODER
AND TRANSCODER SYSTEMS AT SMPTE EXHIBITION
Hollywood,
CA – October 26, 2015 – DS Broadcast, a new entrant in the field of
broadcast encoders and decoders, today announced the launch of a new encoder
and transcoder systems at the 2015 Society of Motion
Pictures & Television Engineers (SMPTE) Annual Technical Conference and
Exhibition. The new BGE9000 encoder
system features 4K Ultra HD encoding as well as four FullHD/HD encoding in real
time, while the BGX2400 transcoder system uses a very high quality upconversion
system for maximum flexibility.
“We have two new
products to showcase for the SMPTE engineering community that are being shown
for the first time in Hollywood. The DS
Broadcast 4K Ultra HD encoder, model BGE9000, is designed with hybrid
capabilities, as a dedicated 4K Ultra HD / HEVC System-On-Chip (SoC) encoder is
used for video encoding while audio and multiplex is done in a programmable
embedded processor. Most video encoders
use software-based encoding rather than a more stable SoC solution,” said Chris
Lee, Director of Marketing & Sales of DS Broadcast. “Our other product being shown for the first
time to SMPTE engineers is a broadcast quality HD-to-4K Ultra HD upconversion
transcoder, model BGX2400, which employs an SSSR (Self-Similarity based Super
Resolution) system. The BGX2400 is designed specifically for HD-quality
original video content owners. It is ideal for a computer system and designed
to accommodate heavy use of graphic acceleration features,” Lee explained. DS Broadcast is exhibiting in the Ray Dolby
Ballroom of Loews Hollywood Hotel in booth 210 during the SMPTE Exhibition,
from October 27-29.
The BGE9000 encoder receives
4K Ultra HD signals from dedicated quad 3G-SDI port and outputs a compressed
stream to two ASI ports or four Ethernet ports.
The BGE9000 delivers the highest quality video using the HEVC (H.265)
codec, a next-generation video compression standard. Truly immersive 4K Ultra HD images with high
resolution, frame rate, and quality are well within reach using the BGE9000.
The BGX2400 transcoder
supports various input container formats and video codecs, upconverts to 4K
Ultra HD video, and then writes back to the specified output format. It is also equipped with HDMI 2.0 to test and
check upconverted images.
The
BGE9000 encoder and BGX2400 transcoder and the previously introduced
professional decoder BGD4000 are each ready for shipment now for broadcast equipment
customers. DS Broadcast will also be introducing ATSC 3.0-ready encoder system in
the first quarter of 2016.
